Chardham

Uttarakhand is renowned as Dev Bhoomi, which literally translates to "the Land of Gods," due to the abundance of religious temples and holy sites that can be found there, as well as its capacity to attract millions of pilgrims and other individuals seeking enlightenment. Pilgrims travel to the Garhwal region to visit the four Dhams, which include Yamunotri, Badrinath, Kedarnath, and Gangotri. These locations are considered to be some of the holiest places in India.

These four ancient temples are located close to the rivers Yamuna (at Yamunotri), Ganga (at Gangotri), Mandakini (at Kedarnath), and Alaknanda (at Badrinath), and they are significant because they signify the spiritual origins of the four sacred rivers.

The Hindu religion holds the belief that each of these locations is exceptionally holy. It is the most important goal of a Hindu's life to make it to the holy places at least once throughout their lifetime in order to achieve salvation, also known as moksha.

Places to Visit on Chardham Tour
Yamunotri Dham

Snow-capped mountains, glaciers, and hot springs surround Adobe Yamuna's Yamunotri Dham at 3293 metres in the Himalayas. The Char Dham Pilgrim Journey begins there, drawing hundreds of pilgrims annually. From Janki Chatti, pilgrims travel 3 kilometres to the Temple. To reach the Temple, walk, ride a pony or palanquin, or take the three-hour bus. Sun-descended Yamuna is Yama's sister. Black marble carvings depict the temple's god.
Yamunotri's hot springs boil raw rice for prasad, according to Hindu mythology and devotees. Kharsali, Surya Kund, Divya Shila, Janki Chatti, Saptrishi Kund Lake, etc. are close Yamunotri. Yamunotri Temple opens on Akshay Tritiya and closes on Yama Dwitiya.

Gangotri Dham

Gangotri Dham, a Ganga shrine, starts several high-altitude hikes. Uttarkashi leads to the beautiful Temple with stunning views. Legend has it that the Ganges started at Gaumukh near Gangotri Glacier. Lord Shiva offered King Bhagirathi a gift as penance, but he trapped it in her hair (jata) and freed it when the Ganga flowed slowly. From Gaumukh, the river became Bhagirathi. Many communities worship the Ganga. Attend Ganga Aarti from Haridwar to Har Ki Pauri.

They bless Pujas with sacred river water. Known near Gangotri are Pandava Gufa, Bhairon Ghati, Gauri Kund, Tapovan, and Kedartal. Gangotri Temple opens on Akshay Tritiya and closes on Diwali.

Kedarnath Dham

Kedarnath Temple, one of India's twelve Jyotirlingas, at 3580 metres above the Mandakini River and Chorabari Glacier home to Lord Shiva. May and June offer the nicest snow-capped mountain views. The 2013 flood prompted many new natural disaster security measures. Kedarnath Trek begins at Sitapur or Sonprayag.

Excellent architecture and solid grey stone slabs protect the temple from powerful flooding. Kedarnath, Kedar Dome, and other Himalayas are visible from the Temple's rocky location. The Pandavas reportedly petitioned Shiva for forgiveness after defeating the Kauravas. Shiva left humo for Kedarnath and four other sites. Five sites comprise Panch Kedar.
Kedarnath Dham is near Sonprayag, Mount, Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi, Sumeru Parbat, Mayali Pass, and Vasuli Taal. Local activities include camping, hiking, and rock climbing. Akshay Tritiya begins and Yama Dwitiya ends at Kedarnath.

Badrinath Dham

The Vaishnav Dharm honours the Vishnu shrine known as Badrinath. The elevation of Badrinath Dham in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand is 3415 metres. Set amidst verdant forests and snow-capped peaks, the Dham presents breathtaking vistas of the Alaknanda River and Garhwal Mountains.

The Dham closes on Vijaya Dashmi, which usually falls in November, and opens a few days after Akshay Tritiya. Badrinath Dham is close to the Vasudhara Waterfall, Satopanth Tal, Hemkund Sahib, Bheem Pul, Mana Village, Vyas Gufa, and Tapt Kunds. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva spent years in meditation here as Goddess Laxmi used a Badri tree to shield her husband.
